Step 1: Explore the Career Readiness Center Phase 1 Resources
First, throughout this course, you will become familiar with the Excelsior Career Readiness Center resources for students and how they can help you plan and actualize your future career and professional goals. Begin by going to the Career Readiness Center pageLinks to an external site. and scrolling down to “Phase 1: Discover” and reviewing the links there. If you are a military service member or veteran, make sure to click on the tab “Military and Veteran Resources” for additional options.
Choose at least two of the linked resources in Phase 1: Discover to explore and then reflect on. You can choose whatever is most useful for you. For example, if you are still considering your possible future occupational options, you might want to explore the Bureau of Labor Statistics or Skills to Occupation Match sites. If you are further along, try the My Career Development Plan resource from Focus 2 Career. Then, reflect on what you explored and discovered in a journal entry of approximately 1-2 paragraphs (or 100-250 words).
Consider the following as jumping-off questions (you do not need to answer each one in turn):
· Which resources did you explore and why? What did you learn?
· How does your educational journey align with your career goals?
· How will a Bachelor’s in Liberal Studies degree help you succeed in the occupations you researched?
· Will you return to the resources in this phase? Why or why not?
Step 2: Teams in the Workplace
In this module, you began your team project, “Building a Better World,” by getting to know one another and agreeing on roles and rules that will help you work together equitably and effectively. Let’s reflect on this idea as it relates to your current or future career plans.
Use the following jumping-off points to start your thinking about how teams function in your current or future career field in a journal entry of approximately 1-2 paragraphs (100-250 words):
Consider the following as jumping-off questions (you do not need to answer each one in turn):
· When is teamwork used in your current or future industry and why? Are the teams typically more hierarchical or egalitarian?
· What makes a team successful in this field? Is it more about the end product or the process of working together?
· Have you been a part of an especially effective team in the workplace? What made them function well and how did you contribute to the team’s success?
· Have you ever experienced an especially ineffective team in the workplace? What made them function poorly? If you were in charge, what would you do differently?
You should include at least one outside source as evidence to support your points about teamwork in your current or future career field. Make sure to cite it appropriately in APA format.
Submission Instructions and Evaluation
You should submit both steps of your journal entry together in one document. Your Roadmap journal entry must be written entirely in your own words. It is not graded on grammar, syntax, and formatting. However, if you use a source in your entry, you must cite it in APA format appropriately.
This assignment will be graded according to the Module 2 Roadmap Journal rubric. Roadmap Journals are worth 15% of your course grade altogether.
